My Beautiful White Butterfly

THE WHITE BUTTERFLY

Perhaps I should write a story about that beautiful little white butterfly that flutters around my garden all summer long .  It has a distinctive black spot on its pure white wings and is quite ubiquitous during the months of July and August.  Whimsical fluttering from a cucumber leaf to a sunflower petal to a cabbage leaf, its movements add an atmospheric quality to the garden space.  As I weed, sow, plant , prune, this angelic little visitor provides pleasant  company, sometimes arriving in the company of others , almost a family or tribe of shared spiritual companionship.  I think that perhaps the butterfly is my ancestor stopping by for a visit, or maybe a love letter from my true love.  Everytime I visit my garden I search for my friend and do not feel at ease until I suddenly see it rising above the asparagus branches.  We talk together. The butterfly flutters and says hello, it flies over head and comments on how well my tomato plants look,  it rests on rhubarb leaf and tells me I should take a break and sit and visit for awhile.  We discuss the weather, how well the pumpkins are growing, and what we are going to preserve from our bountiful harvest.
